Between March 1998 and October 2002, 62 patients requiring trans-sphenoidal pituitary surgery (PS) and 36 patients requiring endoscopic sinus surgery (controls, C) were recruited. A 32-year-old gentleman, of South-Asian origin was admitted with a 4-week history of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. He also had history of polyuria, polydipsia and weight loss over 6 weeks. A 37-year-old gentleman was admitted following a GP referral for asymptomatic hypercalcaemia. His adjusted calcium was raised at 3.27 mmol/l while phosphate level was normal. We describe the case of a 76 year old woman who presented to her GP with a two month history of abdominal pain, tiredness and nocturnal sweating episodes.
